Install Plugins Ableton

  • First, download the plugin to your computer and install it. Once your plugin is installed, open up Ableton Live. Go to Live tab on the top left, and click on “Preferences.” Click on the Plug-In section and make sure you turn on “Use Audio Units,” “Use VST2 Plug-In System Folders” and “Use VST2 Plug-In Custom Folder.” If needed.
  • Create a folder on your computer or external hard drive called 'Third-Party Packs'. To install the pack, double click the.alp file or drag the pack into Live. Live will recognize it as a third-party Pack and ask where to install it. Choose the 'Third-Party Packs' folder that you created.
  • Download the latest installer file from the plug-in manufacturer's website and run it. Some plug-ins may also have a standalone version which is separate from the VST version. Don't install the standalone and VST versions to the same folder.

Live 10 is 64-bit only, therefore 32-bit plug-ins will not appear in Live 10's browser. Likewise, if using the 32-bit version of Live 9, 64-bit plug-ins won't appear in the browser. Some modern plug-ins are only available in 64-bit (such as Kontakt as of version 5.1). Make sure the plug-in is supported on your Operating System.
